Adding memory to compaq laptop question?

I recently bought a Compaq Presario 1220 laptop, I think it was first introduced in 1997, so it's rather old. It only has a max of 80 to 90MB of RAM that it will hold so I was wondering if there was any way to increase the speed and performance of the computer besides adding more memory or if there is any way to somehow add more memory anyway. Sorry if I sound computer illiterate, but I'm kinda new to laptops.

You can always try a faster HD, defragging your current one, and delete any worthless apps that may start up whenever you start Windows. That's about it. Getting a newer HD, well you might as well get a newer system.
