Yes, it is possible, but not recommended. The more practical way is to get an external enclosure like Viking said. It's easier to go through USB and you can use it for other computers. Were you thinking of using it as a main drive? because it wouldn't fit into the laptop itself.

You can not boot from a usb HD, the XP HAL will not let it, fact is you can not even get past the install part, even if your bios has boot from a usb device.
