First let me say hi, my name's Tim and I'm new to the forum. I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro model 430 CDT PA123ou xcd. I would like to know if I can add a wireless network card, and how hard it would be. I have a good understanding of desktop units and have upgraded video and network cards and replaced things like cdrom drives but I have never seen the inside of a laptop.

I dont know that specific model you've got, or if it's able to integrate wireless to it or not. The best way is to call Toshiba and ask. But if it does support it, I believe the wireless card slot is underneath the unit. Most old Toshibas were like this and had easy access to it. There should be a panel for RAM- it's not in there, so rule that out. Look under another panel. As for difficulty, if you know how to install a RAM module, you'll know how to install the wireless card. Same technique, but you have to pop in 2 antenna wires to the card (they should be under the panel).

if you've got a pcmcia or usb, you could go that route too

I would definitely recommend getting a PCMCIA card to put in your computer over the USB. USB wireless cards are notorious for low bandwith/spotty connections. The PCMCIA cards are really easy to install (just stick in the card on start up, and insert the drivers CD), and you should be able to find a decent one for about 30 or 40 bucks on sale...

Is the PCMCIA the same for all laptops or do I need to a specific model? The system is running Windows 95. Do I need to upgrade the OS?
