Toshiba Satellite m45-s359
The way I understand it this notebook video card (integrated GMA 900) cannot be upgraded. When I look at stats for the computer I find this:
Video MemoryVideo RAM installed 8 MB
Max video RAM supported 128 MB
Can anyone explain this to me? Is there ANY way to upgrade?
you can go into bios and bump the ram up to 128mb. however, you will lose 120mb of system ram.

Yes, the video memory is shared on your system. So if you've got 256mb of RAM installed, the video is currently using 8mb of it, so your RAM is only 248 as of right now. You can max out your video memory to 128, but then your RAM will be down to 128mb also. So hopefully you've got more than 256mb of RAM installed.

Wow, I wont tell you how long I searched to find out what it meant... Thanks Laptop Extreme.
Ive got 1gig... so 1000 - 128 = 872 on the system and 128 card?
Sweeeeeet.
Edit: Wait how do I change the video memory setting? Ouch I feel dumb again.

You'll have to change it in bios at boot up.

i hope you dont mind, but i have a simple question to add, and i didn't want to start a whole new thread on basically the same thing.
well, does that mean that if i up the memory on the laptop video memory, it gives me better rendering of images and gameplay? or is it something totally different?

Hey this post got me wondering. If I was to buy the "Acer Aspire 1644WLMi - S Centrino® Performance Model" it says in the stats that it has "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with up to 128MB RAM" does that mean that the video card uses its own 128MB of RAM of 128MB of shared RAM?

Means you can share up to 128mb of RAM. So you can only do 64mb of Video Memory if you want (or even less).

It's supposed to. If you dont have enough system memory, then it may bottleneck in performance. I maxed out my sisters DV1000 and it performed very well.
As for rendering images in something like Photoshop- its mostly RAM/CPU based anyways.
