i had an dell inspiron 7000 laptop, nothing is showing up on the screen. but i can tell it's not an video card fault, because the vga output works fine. can i fix this problem by replacing it with an new lcd inverter?
The screen must've went out on you or the connector from the board may have came loose (but I doubt it). The price for a new screen may be in the $400 range. You can also look for a used unit off of eBay or something, and yank off the display panel.

Hold the laptop up to the light to see if you can make out an image on the screen to determine if it is a light problem. If you feel comfortible opening the unit you can check all the connections on the inverter and system board. If they are tight and the back light has no black marks on it it's probably the inverter. Be careful, that inverter can output anywhere from 500 to 600 volts AC depending on the model.

if you can see something under the light, the inverter board is disconnected or broken
