LapTop Question

I have a Sony Vaio laptop and it is currently running Windows 2000. I want to upgrade to Windows XP. When i loaded the XP Disc onto the laptop i thought it worked but when i start it up i get the Windows XP logo but when the page flips to the next screen this is the error message that i get:

An Error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing.

So i click Ok this is the the other message that i get:

The critical system information file (syssetup.inf layout) Is corrupted or missing.

I have a Pentium III processor

Does anyone know what this means? Or how i can go about fixing it?

Thanks alot the help would be greatly appreciated. 1

Could be a device conflict or a driver not assigned or assigned improperly. Are you able to get into Windows safemode? Also, are you able to install WinXP fresh and not as an upgrade?

Was this answer helpful ? Yes No
