Color Issues

I have begun to notice that on certain websites when a very light color such as a light blue or a light grey is used I can barely see it on my laptop LCD display. In some situations this causes quite a problem since these very light colors are being used to indicate whether or not something has been read, etc.

The laptop (Compaq Presario 1800T 18XL2) has basic brightness control, but not much else. I have tried looking into changing the Color Profile but I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not. Of note, this system was designed with Windows ME in mind, and drivers seem to be hard to come by. I have found a driver for the ATI Mobility 128 vid card but the monitor is listed as "Default Monitor". Could these driver issues also contribute to such a problem or is this an LCD issue??

Thanks for any help or tips.

Rob

windows ME...right ?

have you tried this driver ?

looks like it is the first one "display"

you may first want to check your display resollution, right click on an empty part of your desktop, select properties, then settings ,is it 256 colors ? that is 8 bit and probably why or is it 16 bit medium or 32 bit ?

Sorry, I mentioned Windows ME but didn't complete the thought. I got rid of WinME and now have it set up as a dual boot with WinXP and Linux.

I have tried every driver I could find on the hp/compaq for this laptop and even other computers with the same video card. And yes, the color is set to 32-bit so that is not the problem.

Since my original post I noticed if I push the monitor all the way back (say you're laptop normally looks like _| I pushed it to _/ or even a little bit further) anyway when I push it back like that I can see the lighter colors, however at the point I can't read the text or do anything else productive.

Confused. If anyone knows the answer, please chime in
