Gaming Computer please help!!

My computer is pretty crappy as of now, im a pretty hardcore computer gamer but i dont have the money to buy those $400 video cards etc. so if anyone can help i need suggestions as to what to buy for my computer to make it as good as possible without spending a lot of money. Heres what my pc looks like . . .

502 mb of RAM

Direct X 9.0

512 mb's ram isn't good for gaming. 1gb - 2gb is needed.

Atleast an intel pentium d and up.

New computer time. Budget? You can make an pretty good one with like $200-250

1gb is fine if you want to play games like battlefield 2 and css.

Yea, i do feel like quite the idiot at the moment, I am not good with computers at all and i would say i have a budget of about $300, so should i just start from scratch and buy a new computer? online you can build your own relatively cheap comparing to bestbuys $2000 "gaming computers" and like i said earlier im quite the rookie, so sorry about this but half the stuff you guys are telling me to buy idk what it even is!! if you could like label what it is like "graphics card: etc etc" that would be really cool thanks again for all the help guys i really, really appreciate it!!
