so i was reading about the amd phenom reviews on new egg. it says that am2 boards dont support the phenom like the am2+ boards and that windows doesn't ultilize all 4 of the quads, so now im a bit confused.
I originally bought the am2 board for the 5000+ black edition, but i want to upgrade to phenom now. should i keep my motherboard. the board i currently have is an Asus M2N-E SLI nForce motherboard: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...957&CatId=
I'm guessing that a regular AM2 board will only be able to utilize only a fiew of the 4 cores... thus AM2+ is needed... Oh, and the link is dead.

yeah i would upgrade your board 1st..then buy the quad..im mean if i could buy one or the other right now it would be a board 1st because you can always use your 5000+ with it.

Yes XP and a AM2 board will see all 4 cores and AM2 boards will run a AM2+ processor with a bios update. And the difference is AM2+ boards have PCIe 2.0, Hypertransport 3.0, 1066 ram support and you can control the MHZ and Voltage on each core separate. Just email Asus and see if there going to supply a Bios update.
