Honestly, my favorite way, is to check newegg.com. You can specify what you are looking for in a Mobo, like chipset, amount of ram, and much more. The reviews on there seem to be pretty helpful.

You're buddy is an AMD fan boy. Intel's Core 2 Duo's are the best CPUs on the market. I've heard ASUS makes great boards, especially for OC'ers; The only bad thing I've heard about them is their support isn't the greatest and their boards are picky about ram.

well isnt the intel q6600 quad core better than a intel core duo????

Well the answer to that question is yes and no. Intel's quad core are phenomenal processors. However many many programs are not written to utilize 4 cores. Many programs are still not written to even utilize 2 cores. However if you google some benchmarks about the Q6600 and usally the E6850 you'll find that at stock speeds the E6850 and similar C2D do better than Q6600 at stock speeds in most benchmarks. Once both are overclocked, the Q6600 starts taking the lead.

EVGA and XFX motherboards are both made by Foxconn. Stick with a Asus or a Gigabyte board.
