What to use?

Originally posted by : Simon Hildreth (sim@simproductions.co.uk)
I'm setting up a website about a local campaign and one of the sites features is going to be an online petition. Originally, I was going to use a feedback form that emailed the supporters name, address and email to one of my address', but if this campaign becomes successful that could lead to a jammed mail account and a not so happy mail server administrator!

Then it made sense to do something different, and I wondered whether ASP would be the way to go? I don't have any technical knowledge on ASP, but am aware that free ASP web hosting exists with pre-written scripts, like many companies that offer free CGI.

Can anybody give me some advice?

Being a techie and absolutely loving asp. there is nothing in web programming that is easier and better than using asp to collect information and write this to a database. In your statement you put if this gets popular.. Here is a thought, what if this does and you have ton's of folks put their names, information and such into a database. You then could use asp or something to do with asp to send these notes to people w/o you having to do much. you have all the information already stored somewhere. Why just send a note? that is my question. My answer is why use cgi? I don't know cgi, but with just a few lines of code and a database you can be in business collecting invaluable information. I could go on for days about the benefits. once the information is collected in a database you could use asp to extract, analyze and publish any or all of it back to the web! there is my 2 cents!

steve

------------
Simon Hildreth at 2/13/2000 4:53:47 PM

I'm setting up a website about a local campaign and one of the sites features is going to be an online petition.
