What is hyper thread and do i need it for a better proccesor?

i want to upgrade my processor from a pentium 4 1.8 ghz to pentium 4 3.0 but i read sumthing about hyper thread and wuz not sure if it wuz needed so i hope u reply

Hyperthreading is a feature of some of the intel chips that allows for improved performance when doing multiple processor inttensive threaded applications. I believe the first chip to have such functionality was the P4B-3.06



So unless you're running a NorthwoodB mobo, you'll have to upgrade the mobo in order to get a HT processor installed as the newer ones dont fit in the older sockets
