Upgrade from Athlon64 X2 3800+

So Im planning on upgrading my mobo+cpu next year but I want to be looking at some options. What would be a good upgrade from my 3800+? It could be AMD or Intel. My 3800+ has not been overclocked so it runs at stock 2.0GHz...

Thanks for any input

By next year AM3 will be old news for AMD. Maybe by then AMD will finally have some quad core models out. With the last build here(939) the FX-60 was the only dual core in that line and the fastest stock model for the board type.

Presently the 6400+ X2 model for AM2 board is 3.2ghz with the 6000+ at 3ghz stock. The best move is to wait until you are ready to build for certain and then work with the newest within your budget to avoid being outdated too fast plus upgrade in the largest increment.

Ask this question again near the end of January, Intel is coming out with new stuff. And AMD quad cores are out, but they suck in comparison to Intel's Quads. If i were you, i'd stick with Intel, until AMD pulls their stuff together to produce a CPU that is capable of rivaling or beating the Core 2's, then it'll be Intel's domain of dominance for a while.

Depends on when next year, as of right now I would tell you to go Intel, but by March and on who knows

In the FX series the bulk of the models were single core. The FX series was the performance line of cpus there. The fastest of those being the FX-60 was the only dual core model in that particular series. All X2s are dual core.

Apparently the Phenons are out finally but simply not as early as hoped when building in August. The recommended board for those with an nForce chipset turns out to be the Asus M2N-SLI model. http://products.amd.com/en-us/Recomm...ail.aspx?id=12

(gee? and I bought the M2N-E due to seeing 6 sata ports and 3 pci slots.)

The Phenom has been out for a month, and that is old news released before the Phenom AM2+ boards were released the M2N-SLI is not the recommended board. AM2+ boards for the Phenom have been coming out for a month, the 770 and 790 AM2+ chipsets boards and Nvidia is releasing there AM2+ chipset the first of next year.

The recommendation is right on AMD's own site there if you look at the link. That was their recommendation for an AM2 not AM2+ board seen there.
