This has me clueless?

Just wondering what effects i would notice if the battery inside the computer was low or empty.



I notice lately that when i shutdown the computer after about 30 minutes there is a noticable cracking/popping sound.



Always after this sound my graphics card doesnt have its drivers installed anymore and i have to system restore to get it working again. Or it randomly comes back on after at least 10 shutdowns.



I presumed it was a BIOS problem always but after playing around today with startup/shutdown proved it to be this shutdown problem.



If i shutdown and turn on computer before this noise (30 minutes) the graphics card works fine. If it is shut down longer than 30 minutes the graphics card is not working. Also unplugging the power card from the wall then plugging back in then turning computer back on will make graphics card not work.



Could battery do this? Any ideas on what is going on here? Cause im sure as hell am not running a system restore every time i turn computer on and creating restore points after installations.

Sorry can you explain what this means. Is this in relation to my problem, or the low/empty battery effect?

You'll lose all the changes you have made to your bios, for example, overclocking info, time, fan settings etc.

What he means is, if your battery is dead, every time you reboot you will have to reset all of your settings in your BIOS. The battery provides the voltage necessary to keep your settings in memory. That's all the battery does.

As for your crackling noise, that's strange.

What that sounds like is that your PSU is discharging, or that you have a capacitor that is faulty and is discharging and shorting out something.

It could be a thermal problem. You might have a hairline crack in one of your circuits, when the motherboard heats up the crack closes and keeps things running right, but when you shut down, the board cools down and the crack opens up just enough to loose connection.

the battery dying would not cause the problem you are having, if the battery was dying it would just throw up an error on bootup about the csmos your clock would be wrong that type of thing, do you have onboard graphics if so remove the graphics card and plug the monitor into the onboard and see if the problem stil happens.

can you tell where the crackling sound is coming from? It could well be the power supply, I've seen them do strange things.

Cant tell where its coming from, but sounds like maybe cooling and parts moving from contracting. It sounds like that plastic crack you here all electronics make every now and then when not in use like tv and stereo, but this only makes it once.



The system detects the hardware but no drivers, and i can see the drivers on the system, yes they are the latest. I tried rolling back also. But yes there is a BIOS setting for the graphics which is a security BIOS that makes sure the graphics BIOS cannot be overridden so the card should work every time.
