so, i felt that my case was far too loud, and decided i'd switch a couple fans from 12v down to 5v or maybe 7v. switching to 5v went fine, but when i attempted to put a fan on 7v, i must've mis-matched the cables.

when i connected it... there was lots of heat, and a couple crackles. everything is fine now except the fan itself, which makes an unhappy sound when turned up above 1500rpm or so.
nothing else seems affected, but should i watch out for other malevolent repercussions? and can i just purchase a new fan and put it on the same molex?


on a side note, about how many fans is it safe to put onto the 5v line? (500w psu with 30A on 5v)
