Intake and Exhaust Fans

How do I know which is which?

The main exhaust is always the rear with a front or side being the intake. The intake will draw in cooler room air while the heated air gets thrown out the rear of the case. The more air flow the better!

You can use the same fan for either exaust or intake, just the way you point it.

the ones installed on top should take out hot air, the ones on the bottom should bring cool air into the case.

to know which is which put your hand near it ... some coolers have an arrow printed to indicate the direction of the air flow...

One good example of how fans work suprisingly is the Antec 900 model case seeing twin 120mm front intake fans, one 120 rear, and a larger 200mm top exhaust fan there. Here I added one extra 120 on the side cover as well due to how the case is situated.
