hi,
I'm very new to processors and power supplies, so this might sound like a stupid question.
I have an intel computer (I'm guessing around 1.0 ghz) sitting here, with out a power supply. I also have a gateway 2000 with a power supply, and I have no clue what it's specs are, It says on the power supply: "maximum output power is 145w". i don't know if this is enough to power up an intel with around 1.0 ghz. I don't know for sure if this is what it has for processing speed, but that's my guess, since it had windows xp, and 512 ram.
Thankyou,
Kevinaz

should be fine using it if the connectors fit.
dont bother buying a new psu, since for like 250$ you can build a pentium dual core system, with like 1-2gb ram

huh?
I'm just asking, will a 145w psu power a +/- 1.0ghz intel.

It probably would, but it'd be cutting it close... real close... I'm using a 145w to power a PII-450MHz

I tried to power my brother's Athlon XP 3000 with it when he had a bad PSU, but it wouldn't even POST.

Using 145W for an Celeron 566, GeForce 2, you should be fine.. but it might be pretty hot.

IMHO I wouldn't even turn on a PC with anything less than 200W unless you have only one hard drive, minimum RAM, no disc burners, and onboard video and sound.

Ok, it works.
It has an intel 800mhz, 512 ram, (I think) 5gb hd. This is NOT my main computer, this is just something I plan to fool around with. (see my signature for my main computer).

Just an precaution, don't run big programs on it. The CPU or the GFX.
