here are 4 power supplys i am looking at. I am installing it into a HP m8000n because i want to upgrade to a video card. How do i know if i need a ATX or a ATX12V power supply

I don't need 2 PCI E connectors do i? They are only used on video card correct? I only plane on 1 video card so 1 power connector would be sufficient.... right

I've heard bad things about rosewill, and I haven't really heard of those other ones before. I'd look into an OCZ or Corsair PSU, I think they have the best reputations.

The XCLIO is the best out of those, i would consider a Corsair or OCZ supply.

Of those two i would recommend the OCZ because it can produce more power, however it depends on what your going to run. What video card are you getting?

Of those the XClio is the best, although the Rosewill isn't bad if you want to save a little money. ATX and ATX12, where referenced on newegg, are generally the same. Either one should be fine.
A single PCI-E connector should be fine. You will need to use two if you are using an 8800GTX or 8800Ultra, and will need an 8pin PCI-E connector as well as a traditional 6 pin if you're using a 2900XT, but those can be provided by adaptors instead if necessary. If you're not using one of the above cards or two video cards, a single PCI-E connector is the most that will be required.

My personal pick would be the Corsair VX450 ($54.90 after rebate) or Corsair VX550 ($70.99 after rebate). They are better quality units by far than any you have listed.

I think you would better get Corsair VX550 as ceewi1 suggested. It is a good price. And I think you need a modular psu as HP cases are usually small, you don't want unnecessary cable to block the air flow.

I really have no preference to nvidia or ati as i have never had a video card. I am more or less picking brands and model of this hardware buy the reviews do to the lack of knowledge

Just make sure whatever one you get that it will fit in your case. OEM manufactureres (dell,hp,gateway, etc.) sometimes use proprietary parts to build their machines. The old HP's used to have smaller power supplies and you would only replace them with the same size(not the standard size seen today). Also make sure that the cables are the same for the motherboard connector.

Ditto. Make sure that your Case is big enough....
The ATI is an power sucker, then Nvidia pretty much the opposite. You might need an slightly better PSU with the x1950.
