Is ddr3 worth it???

I'm upgrading my ram is it worth getting ddr3 ram or should I stick with ddr2? And if ddr3 is the one to go with what are some good mobos that support ddr3?

I would stick with DDR2. DDR3 is still too expensive and I'm pretty sure there isn't much difference in performance over DDR2 yet.

Cromewell

DDR2 is still the best ram for the price. DDR3 is improving, however the performance difference isn't great yet since they still use high latencies.

I would go with a DDR2 motherboard and DDR2 RAM for now.

latencies are relative to the time of 1 clock tough.. (a higher latency doesnt mean that its slower directly)

but I agree with what cromewell said, I dont think the difference is big enough to validate the pricetag

I know that, which is why DDR has lower latencies then DDR2. However DDR3 has much higher latencies for the speeds that it currently uses.

For instance, you can buy both DDR2 and DDR3 that are 1066MHz.

DDR2-1066 has timings of 5-5-5-15 ($65 for 1GB)

DDR3-1066 has timings of 7-7-7-21 ($152 for 1GB)
