New Computer - Vista and its Requirements

I am about to purchase a new computer and have read somewhere that for Vista to operate efficiently, it needs 2GB memory. Is this necessary as many computers with Vista are sold with only 1GB or even less. Also I really don't know whether I need the Home Premium package or if the Home Basic package will be adequate. Can anyone advise me please.

Vista will run ok on 1GB, but it's the minimum. Many manufacturers use the minimum to keep the price point attractive (remember XP computers shipping with 256 or 512? Same thing). Vista really likes 2GB of RAM.

Home Basic = You'll regret

Home Premium = IMO I'd get it, and lots more features.

I'd recommend 2GB minimum.... And no less than 1GB. Usually it's 1GB - Onboard GFX memory...

yeah i'd have to agree, even if my laptop says Vista Certified, it's struggling to run some big apps alongside each other.

yeah 2Gb will do and make sure you have also Video memory
