DIMMS or sdram

what is the diffrence between DDR2 800 SDRAM an DDR2 800 DIMMS what is better

No difference! SDRAM is a type of memory while the term DIMM refers to the dual inline memory module seen with 184pin DDR memory, 240pin DDR2 memory, 240pin DDR3 memory. The old term SIMM was for single inline memory module there. On older memory RDRAM would be a different type seen there compared to SDRAM.

The main things to look at when going to buy memory is the type like valure ram or performance types seeing faster timings and lower CAS Latencies depending on the type of system being built or upgraded. The term SDRAM refers to Syncronous Dynamic Ram there.

so if 2 diffrent types of ram had same everythink aseped 1 was DIMM an 1 is SDRAM there would be no preformance diffrence

The term dimm simply means the standard for all memory past the old single inline memory modules. That applies to DDR266 memory as well as it does to DDR2 800 SDRAM even while those are two different types there.

If you look on the board where Socket A, Socket 775 for Intel you still will see dimm slots while each may run a different type as well as speed of memory. You can browse two different vendors selling the exact same memory with two different listings.

Specifications as far as speed and type are the main concern when going to select the memory you will be using according to what any particular make and model board will support. All memory at this time regardless of type goes into the appropiate dimm slots on a board. To make things a little easier for you the two links here are for the actual full page definitions of each term.

DIMM and SDRAM refer to precisely the same thing. Different vendors use different terms, but they are both referring to the exact same thing.

DIMM is dual inline memory module

SDRAM is Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory.

DDR2 is a 240 pin SDRAM DIMM.
