My hard drive recently crashed. It started clicking and then upon reboot gave me a message that "Hard Drive Failure is Imminent". Then I got a Boot Failure and it would not even boot up anymore. Well, I bought a new hard drive, installed it and the same "Hard Drive Failure is Imminent" message appeared. I put in a XP CD, and booted from there to install windows. When I began the format, it hanged at 1%. I tried to again and it did the same thing. Is this hard drive defective too??? Can someone help me, I am at my wits end!
Clicking is a sure-fire sign of a bad HDD. Sorry to hear about your original one. Even worse news, is...yes, the replacement you obtained is also bad. Some are just defective from the factory. Return/RMA it and try another.

Quite odd. Did you get the new one from the same store where you got your old one?
You should get a replacement for the new one anyways and the old one if it's covered in warranty

Is there anyway to know for sure if this new hard rive is bad? Is it possible that CMOS needs to be reset? I have seen this in a couple other forums. I can't believe this would have anything to do with the format hanging.

I think you'd pretty much have to try it in another PC to be certain.
