1GB is not enough ram now??

I remember when 1GB was more than enough ram for a computer, but now i feel like it's not...?

25%(about 256+mb) of my ram is used to run background items like Zonealarm, Antivirus, etc...

When i use Firefox it uses about 512 ram so about 50% of my ram.

That's 75%(768mb) ram used. Now when i open a program like photoshop, or a game it goes over 100% and makes my computer laggy.

I have a dualcore but i can't multitask now because i don't have enough ram?

What would be considered more than enough ram now? 2GB of ram?

I use 2GB on XP Pro and it runs like a dream. Firefox using 512MB is excessive and I would look into that, I have not seen it using that much resources myself.

For most people, 1GB RAM should be adequate for XP. If you are going to run photo or video editing apps then max out your RAM.

my firefox is using about 44 mb of ram. so i dont know whats going on with yours but once thats fixed 1 gb of ram should be fine for xp. i use about 512 unless im rendering in 3ds max. then i use like 900.

I would say 2gigs is becoming if not already the standard for current machines. If you want 'more than enough' 3 gigs or maxed out for xp would be the way to go.

Yeah, I think 1GB is barely the standard amout, I'd say 2GB will be soon, but not JUST yet...

To be safe, I'd consider getting another GB, it's not like RAM is expensive now either

My current system has 2 gigabytes of memory and I really like how it works. Another system I use has 768 megabytes of Random Access Memory and it runs fine for most applications. Unless you are a gamer or running photoshop 1 gigabyte of memory should be enough for your system.

Probably within two years 1 gigabyte (1024 megabytes) of RAM will be the bare minimum to run most applications. But from my understanding, computer hardware has outpaced the software so it may take a while for the software to catch up (meaning your current technology may be good for yet a few more years). Perhaps up to 4 years if you are using a 32-bit operating system.

I don't think I am going to upgrade my Random Access Memory when 2 gigabytes of memory is obsolete technology. I will just get a new system.

512MB? I'd try to update Firefox then... FF has some memory leak issues, so I'd also check that out.

1GB of RAM is low by todays standards, mainly because of Vista pretty much requiring 2GB of RAM to run smoothly, and since RAM is so cheap more and more people have 2GB+.

My laptop does pretty well with 512MB, as long as I'm not doing anything more than typing documents, chatting, and surfing the internet. 1GB is more standard now, but Vista is beginning to push that standard...

i run 4 gigs of ram and vista 64 bit but i think if youare running vista with modern games 3gig should be what you run.
