Hard Drive Password Problem.

i just got a gateway solo 9300 off of ebay. it has a 10gb hard drive that needs a password and i dont have one. the guy who sold it to me does not know it. what can i do to fix this?

i tried that for some reason it wont let me. i cant get pass this password and it is for the hard drive. i put it in my other laptop and the same thing comes up.

Hmm, XP setup should let you delete the partition all together, then format. Unless your not booting into XP setup. Change the boot order and make sure the CD-Rom drive is at the top in Bios.

i have the cd-rom first in the boot order and xp wont boot or wipe drive. it just says enter hdd password.

And it says specifically "enter hdd password"?

I think you may have found the reason it was on ebay... You may have to purchase another hdd for it.

Did a search on google, have seen some instances of it, and no fixes.

It's possible it has been ATA locked. If that's the case it's locked unless you know the master password.
