RAM upgarde

As I am pretty ignorant when it comes to computers, I though of joining this forum in the hope that some good soul would help me solve my problem.

My computer has 3 RAM slots two of which had 256MB sticks. As I had just installed Flight Simulater X I decided to upgrade, had a look at the motherboard manual which said that it could take up to 3GB of RAM, did some research on the internet and bought three 1GB sticks from Amazon (Kingston Value RAM KVR400X64C3A/1G). I inserted these but windows would not boot, so I removed one of them and everything worked perfectly. Thinking that the stick was damaged I replaced it but it worked. So now I though that it was the slot that was damaged, and so inserted one of the 256MG sticks and windows booted up reading all the Ram, but half way through it stopped, so I am now running 2 GB..

Would anyone know why it will not take all 3 sticks ? I did write to Kingston support but have not had an answer. Attached is a report of my computer.

Could it be some demage with your motherboard?

Did you ever try only running one slot RAM?

Yes I did. I statred with one, then two, then three

Is it not dangerous to fiddle about when the computer is switched on, is there not a possibility of getting electrocuted ? Could the motherboard be damaged ?

What motherboard is this, make and model.

but can you see the post screen? can you access the bios?



I mean, is it only windows that doesn't boot???

I have since found out that the manual says DR SDRAM memory module table:

DDR 266 3 DIMMS

DDR 333 3 DIMMS

DDR 400 2 DIMMS

Note: We do not guarantee that all DDR 400 memory modules will work properly with your mainboard



I'm sorry but I do not understand what "post screen" means and don't know how to access bios.



When I inserted all 3 the monitor said "no signal" and went black, when I inserted two 1Gb and one 256mb windows started but then stopped and asked whether I wanted to start in "safe Mode" and gave some other options (I cannot remember what they were)

you don't know how to access the bios but are installing new ram?? of course it's not necesary to know that.. but it could help to solve some problems..
