My RAM story

So I went to my friends house to build his computer and ran upon an old stick of 512mb PC 3200 ram lying around. I asked what why it was there and he said that he took it out from his old emachine because it stopped his frequent crashing. So I asked him if I could have it and take a look at it (thinking that its definitely broken as its been sitting unprotected on the bottom of a drawer for who knows how long). Well I came home, popped it into my computer and what do ya know. It works flawlessly! Now I have 1.5gigs of ram and my bf2 doesn't lag anymore!

Just thought I'd share my good day, and If you're wondering what system I built for it, its a Core 2 Duo E6550, 2 gigs of ram and a 8800gt for $800.

Just goes to show how good eMachines are. The little extra ram apparently saw things reconfigured just enough to smooth out the game's glitches there. I thought about adding another pair of 1gb dimms here to study the effects on the new build for 32bit OSs, games, and apps overall. That may be coming still.

Ahah I know, Emachines are horrible. With 1 gigs of ram the game lagged mainly in the beginning and usually sorts itself out in about 30 seconds. Now with 1.5gigs I can go right in without worrying about lag!

For the best results seen in the dual channel mode you would need to run a pair of 1gb dimms there. What are the specs on the system? A good 2gb would more then likely clean everything up if it was looking for ram. So this is being seen on an older case since you already have 2gb in the newer build with the Core 2 Duo E6550.

On the old Socket A then later 939 build going from a matched pair of Corsair xms series DDR400 to the 2gb of Kingston ValueRam made a big difference overall. Yet XP still loves it's problems as usual when any game takes a nose dive.

With 2gb of DDR2 800 Kingston Hyper X on the new build Vista smiles while XP frowns at the latest XP versions of drivers out for the newer DX10 compatile card. Old games like Return to CastleWolfenstein and Soldier of Fortune I+II run smooth as silk on Vista and still lock on XP.on occasion. I've the same thing about 8600s and some 8800s as well.

I have socket 754 so there's no dual channel for me

I never had that misfortune since I skipped right over 754s into the last 939 build here. When you do get into a newer build with the dual channel mode then the recommend would be seeing that enabled with pair or pairs of equal sized dimms. But you might still notice an improvement despite running in single channel only.

I would save for a newer build while putting up with any slight lag still seen to any small degree at this point. I'm sure you are eventually looking forward to something far better when the time comes.

That's what someone else I know thought as well or boasted anyways. The next thing you know the older system was left behind for a custom case. In the real world forget the beast part since even the best of prebuilds do always seem to lack quite a bit.
