External Harddrive problem, need help!

So I recently bought this Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500 gt external drive.



I can transfer files to it normally, no problemo. I can open files from it, but I cant transfer stuff back to my computer.



Example: I put a 4 gig file on the hard drive and when Im trying to copy it back on my computer it transfers it for like 1-2 minutes or a few megs and then just stucks there.



What could it be? Do u think its broken?

How long are you waiting? a 4GB file will take ages to transfer over USB.

Enough.. It just stucks there. After sometime I get I/O error or something.

The average speed stucks aswell as the estimated time.

you could try reformatting the drive? deleting the partition too. make sure everything is connected securely

Done that already.

is it a hard drive enclosure that you can take the hard drive out of? if it is then if you've got another hard drive spare then try putting that in to see if you can narrow down what the problem is.
