Whipe completely HD

I am wanting to whipe a hd as I will be giving it to someone else. Normally I would format but this doesn't delete eveything so Im told. Does anyone know of a good free program thats easy to use for whiping a hard drive to a clean state?

A would suspect a general user would not know how to retrieve things.

A Clean format should do it

Do the Slow one, As it will take longer time to delete each file and do a more effecient job.

No, a full format scans for bad sectors which is why it takes longer. A quick format erases the files just as well as a full format.

You can use something like this http://www.fileshredder.org/ but virtually nothing makes a file completely unrecoverable if someone is willing to pay enough money to recover it.

It's a common mistake

People think that the extra time for a full format is because it is erasing the files better but it's not.
