SecureConnect?

Do i need this in order to use my WD HDD? I purchased a HDD off newegg (i'm new to SATA), and all i got was the HDD wrapped in bubble wrap, without any manuals. Do i need secure connect? Or do i only need the one little sata cable? the only cables i had were from my mobo (both sides look like this)

Will this run the HDD? or will i need secure connect?

No, you do not need it. The secure connect I beleive is simply something so the SATA and power plug will not get pulled from your drive. I've had a few Western digital hard drives and I've never used that thing...

So the plain SATA is enough? Thanks.

Yeah a normal sata cable is enough. Some people say they are too easy to knock off but I've never had a problem and if you aren't pulling at them its secure enough.

I think the secure connect is pretty much best for external sata connections. i mean seriously how much would you be moving your tower around anyways while it's running?

Can unplugging a HDD while a PC is running cause damage to the unit itself? (i assume that it can corrupt a HDD if you pull it while it's running, but the HDD itself get hurt?)

I don't get how people complain about they're hard drives coming unplugged... unless I'm in my case messing around and pull on the plug it will never come out... it can get bumped and won't pop out I just don't get what people are doing that they're drives are coming unplugged.. it shouldn't just fall out

I agree, I have to try and pull the cables off. I've never seen one just pop off like some people have claimed.
