HELP! Recovering Hard Drive Files

{Problem Solved!}

Hey everyone! I just decided (on a whim) to try to use a hard drive from a freshly downed computer. When I run the hard drive as master, it doesn't take many seconds before it's a black screen, with a little flashing underscore, and being unresponsive Takes ahold... So I dropped it as a secondary in my other computer that is on sata's, and after a checkdisk, the hard drive is accessible, but all the files are in my main users documents, is there a way to remove the old restrictions? Lots of stuff in there I would like to retrieve, but access is restricted from that users documents. =\ Any help is appreciated, thanks for your time!

(EDIT) The folder for documents shows as it is empty, 0kb's ofspace used.... Does this mean it's really all lost? or encrypted???=\ This is not improving

Have you tried setting the permissions for the folder? How about changing the ownership of the folder? If you have administrator access, you can change the owner of the folder, effectively giving you access to all files inside that folder.

As for the size being 0... don't have an answer for that one (yet).

Goodluck.

The problem is that you can only do those things while logged onto the OS on the drive as the admin... and if the hard drive is faulty and he can't boot it as master then that really isn't an option.

I had a very similar problem a while back, and no one had an answer for me, so I do not think that it can be easily accomplished... maybe with some folder unlocking program, but discussion may be against Forum Rules.
