External drive storage

I'm looking for an external drive storage that can carry at least 3 3.5 sata 2 hdd's. It would be nice if it had an network port. If been looking around in a couple of online shops but i can't find anything with more capacity than 2 disks.

There are quite a new Network Attached Storage devices out there that allow for 2 disks. However, it's not going to be all that cheap. Probably the cheast around is the older Netgear NAS(I forget the model, but I think they have a newer, better one out now as well...) However it requires special software to use and only works over the network(no USB).

There might be some on newegg; I know they have 4 disk NAS systems.

OK... I would suggest other brands over it, but it was the first that came to mind Plus it's the cheapest by far (probably for a reason )

You can always make your own. Should be be too hard to make a box.

i found a couple of things:
- D-Link
- Netgear
- U.S. Robotics
- Intel

The only problem is... for the price of the last 2 i can buy a complete pc that can hold more than 7 disks with some sata controllers. And that's much more flexible. Anyone got any advice?

The best solution is getting a 500GB SATA2 internal hard drive, and external hard drive enclosures from eBay. The whole thing costs $AU180.

I think enclosures are more efficient. I suppose you can always get those data racks which houses several drives, but they are not portable though.
