Hard Drive not working

Hello,

I have been attempting to install a second hard drive on my computer.

It is an IDE drive (which I tried connecting as a slave to my O.S. drive and then tried plugging into the other ide port as a master with my DVD drive as a slave).

Now Windows XP device manager has correctly identified the drive. But I cant see it in windows explorer.

I think I have it plugged in correctly but I was wondering if there is some setting I need to change to get it to work.

Thanks!

do you see a "found new hardware" or add hardware wizard?

If it's a new drive you have to go to disk management (right click my computer->manage->storage tree->disk management) and initialize/partition and format it before it will show up in explorer.

Many thanks!!

This appears to have solved the problem - I'm partway through formatting the drive, and its already visible on my My Computer tree. If I have any further problems once its formatted I'll post again.

Thanks again!
