adding a Hard drive

Hi,

I have a 80GB HD already in my computer and a 40GB I bought in like 99 or 2000...

I want to put as a internal HD, Can you explain to me step by step what to do?

Thank you

So the 80GB is in as master right?

Set the jumper on the 40GB to slave and conenct the power and PATA cable. The BIOS should detect the drive automatically. If it is not formatted already you can initialize/format it in windows by right clicking on my computer->manage. Under the storage tree click disk management. You'll see the drive there, you can create partitions, format and what-not by right clicking on it.

Alright thanks a lot for your help!

Do I need to buy the cable for the power and the PATA cable? I can't see if I have one, as I'm going to turn the computer off when I have everything I need.

Thanks again

PS: the 80GB is in the default position, I never moved so I guess it is in as master.

Unless the drives are SATA. The power cable will come from your PSU, if the drives are both PATA (I just assumed they'd be because of the age of the 40GB drive) then you will already have the cable.
