Hard drive and mem

I do have an old computer. here are the specs:



CPU : Cyrix 6x86MX PR-300 M2 MXX

Mobo: AT TX - PRO w/Vid and Aud. Zapa (I forgot the exact model coz i lost the manual)

Ram: 32 mb sdram 168 pin 3.3 volts

HDD: IDE 4gb





I'm trying to upgrade this computer. I installed a 64 mb pc100 mem. For us to install the memory, we need to take the HDD out. I tried it without the 32 mb. it worked. it booted to windows 95 . I tried adding the 32 mb, thinking that it's compatible (together with the 64 mb)... NO POST. so I took out one memory.. it POSTED but the ide devices now are not detected in BIOS. swapped cables and tried both motherboard IDE ports. took out the cmos battery. CDrom was detected. HDD was left undetected. I was thinking that HDD might be damaged by taking out from the tower... I'm also thinking that BIOS might also be broken because I tried adding the 32 mb memory to the mobo while the 64 mb was installed.



I'm not 100% sure about this... Can anyone help me determine the real cause of this problem?

By the way, how would you know if you're memory is PC100 by just looking at it? I lost the manual of this motherboard and there's no sticker showing that that mem is PC100..

You sure its sdram pc-100, all my older socket 7 boards from back in the pentium I days has Simms ram and alot of the old boards had like 64 or 128mb limits on installed ram

The 64 mb I installed is PC100. the old 32 mb mem doesn't have a sticker saying PC100, so i'm not sure if it's really a PC 100 mem.

That has nothing to do with finding the speed. Did the make anything less than PC100? If so, the 64 probably is too fast for your mobo.

well.. then why dont you 'enlighten' us instead of just telling other people that they're wrong? besides... he merely posted the pic's to show the dimm's, to be 100% sure its SDRAM





either way.. the first thing that comes to my mind atm would be that the motherboard doesnt support more than 64Mb RAM

Who said it did other than you! The made PC-66

He knew it was PC100, which means it would have to be SDRAM. The only issues under consideration is the speed or capacity (or maybe voltage... I don't know too much about SDRAM) compatibility with the motherboard.

Did the 32MB RAM look like the 72pin?
