Drive Won't Format--- Sooooo Annoying!!!!

I have no idea why, but my friends seagate u series 5 hard drive won't format, it says windows could not complete the format, or it never gets past 2 bars! whats going on??

you probably need to use another program to try and format.

other program what other progams are there. (so long as I don'nt need to pay for them it's okay.

What OS are you running? How large is the drive? SATA, PATA?

nevermind I decided not to bother formatining I just deleted all the files and unstalled windows xp. it was running on windows Me! (traces of Me are still left though, so it will tel them not to try and boot from it!) just in case, it was a 40 gig ide drive.

Try zeroing it out. That took me only twelve hours to zero out my 120GB.

when you installed xp, why didn't you just delete the partition and let xp create a new one? you didn't have to manually delete all the files!
