Can 2GB make an entire difference over 1GB if the Vid Card is good?

With a High-end GeForce 7 Series card, does 2GB or 1GB really matter?

I have 512MB in my comp with a 6600GT card and at high settings, my comp runs SLOW! Would upgrading the card or memory be better? If both, would upgrading 1gb or 2gb matter?

Thank you

Well in some games 2gb of ram would be better like BF2 and FEAR. Otherwise most games just need 1gb and a good videocard to run but those 2 games i mentioned need 2GB cause i upgraded from 1GB where FEAR was laggy and when i went to 2GB it was running smoothly for most of the game.

RAM just doesnt help with games and all that but with everything you do

so go for RAM then get a vid card when you get more money

When running Half Life 2 with a matched pair of Corsair xms series 512s there were some noticable drops in performance while in some game maps and even some good system locks. Note those were performance dimms there. Upon upgrading with a pair of 1gb Kingston Value Ram dimms HL2 suddenly noticed a steady game play for the most part. The lock ups are far fewer and due mainly at this time to pushing it a little harder then the server is ready for. The increase in memory will be noticed more with some programs, games, etc. then in others. But that is to be expected.

I'm not sure, yet I think he means that not only will games beneifit from RAM upgrades, yet overall system performance and other programs will too

The simple increase in ram doesn't always mean an immediate difference will be seen right then. It will be noticed more over a period of time when Windows seems to run better, programs not just games load faster and see less hesitations. It doesn't matter how much memory is installed however when a glitch in a program or game occurs seeing various crashes. Then you start looking at other things like memory, video, and the program/game itself.
