ram is to be 512,and its not

hello Everyone:

I have a question about Ram. I have a Dell inspiron 2650 notebook: well I got the information on it, and found it has two places for ram: (one under the keyboard, and one toward the back bottom) well I have replaced the one that had the smaller amount of ram with 256mb stick, which turned out to be the one under the keyboard.

The problem is under system properties it doesnt say 512mb<....thats the max this laptop can hold, but it says something different....like in KB

I dont know what else to do

both places for ram have 256mb sticks but it doesnt show....help?

1024KB = 1MB... Soo, if you have a larger number in KB's, you're fine What's the amount it shows?

Thanks The_other_one,

Found out the new stick was not compatible with my system, took it back and ordered from Crucial, Just got the stick from Crucial today and it shows the right amount.....great now I have all the ram this laptop needs. So now its sitting with two 256mb sticks, which makes me have 512mb ram. Next need to get another hardrive down the road, when I can afford it, and when prices drop

Prices aren't going to drop much for laptop harddrives, so once you can afford it, get one.
