Incompatible HDD?

Is there incompatible issue between IDE HDD and SATA HDD? I got a new computer recently and it抯 using SATA HDD. I stuck in my old IDE HDD in the new computer to copy some files off of it, and I notice the transfer rate really sucks! It takes forever to copy some big files and I notice on my Task Manager in windows (I have dual-core machine) that I have 1 CPU that抯 maxing out while other one is barely at 1%. Funny thing is that I notice whenever I try to access the IDE HDD and open a big file (maybe 10mb or bigger) my mouse curser disappears and won抰 come back unless I reboot the machine. (The mouse function still works just that I can抰 see where I抦 pointing?

I called Dell support line (yes?I brought a dell... x_x ) to see if they know something about it, and got no HELP at all!! The technician had no idea what he was talking about, he was just reading off some premade responses from his monitor!...

So I was beginning to think that my old IDE HDD is not compatible with the new machine?since I抳e reformatted my OS incase there was some software problems or something?or maybe the interface in my new computer is for new PATA drives? (aren抰 they the same?) not entirely too sure about this but the cable looked little different?

Any ideas?...
