adding a drive...help

i have a 10GB Seagate drive in my computer now. i have a 40GB maxtor i want to put in with it. whenever i have both of the drives plugged up at the same time, the biso doesnt see them. however, if i try only one of the drives the bios sees them. what is my problem? the pc is the desktop in my signature.

If they're sitting on the same IDE channel (assuming they're IDE and not SATA), then you need to set the jumpers to master and slave.

they are ide, and i had the jumpers on cable select. i want to use maxblast to take my os and files and put them on the 40gb, so i can take out the 10gb and put it it a different system.

For the cable select setting to work properly, the cables you are using must support the cable select feature.

I haven't personally used the cable select settings, but it might be an idea to select the slave/master jumpers anyway.

I'm not sure whether MaxBlast will be usable with your Seagate drive either, or whether only Maxtor drives are detectable.

MaxBlast 4 is a one-step, ATA/IDE hard drive installation utility. MaxBlast 4 makes hard drive installations and upgrades hassle-free for novices and professionals alike by automatically identifying, partitioning, and formatting any Maxtor ATA or SATA hard drive, making it data-ready in minutes.
