I Just bought a simpleTech 60 gb external hd(5400 rpm) and i need to be able to use it with both a mac and a pc and it says to do that i need to reformat the hd to fat32/16 filesystem but the maual does not say how. Also i have heard that a fat32 can only hold 4gb of data and is that true because whats the point of reformating a 60gb hd if it can only hold 4 gb? so i need to know how to reformat it and if it would benefit or hurt me?
Dont know about FAT16 but I have a 80GB formated in FAT32 on a older computer with 98se. If you want to format it in FAT32 heres a link. Its a boot floppy.

Well FAT32 partitions should not exceed 40GB. Make two partitions of 30GB and format them FAT32 style

You can do the formatting from WXP

4gb limit is for file size, not total partition- so unless you copy an entire DVD at once, you are good. If you do need files larger than that, try to seperate them if possible. I have an external 40gb, with 12 gigs taken up- depending on what you are doing, you will never have that problem.
