i dont understand the difference between SATA and PATA

PATA=IDE=ATA66MHz/ATA100MHz/ATA133MHz
SATA=SATA=SATA150MHz/SATA300MHz

Sata is faster and uses diffrent cables and less power

basically if you have a choice between the two, I'd highly suggest sata because its transfer speeds are a little better

And the cables are much better, they aren't as fat/big or annoying like IDE Cables are... SATA cables are very small and thin, and you can usually tuck them away

SATA is faster than IDE, and as others have said they also have smaller cables. They only cost a few bucks more than there IDE counterparts.
