Motherboard Ram Speed

This is my motherboard http://www.emachineupgraders.info/di.../msi6741.shtml. I don't know how good it is but could you tell me whether PC 3200 ram would work on it. Thanks.

I didn't get why it said "PC3200 (DDR400) maximum 4 banks (2 double-sided) only" by it though. I don't understand what it means. Could you help?

Oh and I forgot to say that my pc came with PC2700 ram. Why would the makers put this in if it could take PC3200, which is no more expensive?

a lot of memory has chips on each side of the ram stick, in which case your particular board can only take two of them if the ram is DDR400. But since your old ram is 2700 anyways, either replace it completely or buy more 2700, the ram only works as fast as its slowest stick, so there's no reason to get 3200 if you're going to be using 2700 too, cause all the ram would run at 2700. And the makers are going to put in whatever is cheapest for them, 2700 must have been that at the time

Ok thanks.

The ram I want is the same price for 3200 as it is for 2700, and I read in another topic that it is better to have 1gb 3200 ram than 1.25gb 2700 ram, so I am going to just put in the new 1gb 3200 ram and take out the 256mb 2700 old ones. I'll maybe sell them.

So i'm sorted now, thanks again.
