Hey, i was at this party the other day and this guy was trying to explain something to me. He said it was still in the very basic test stages but it would probably be out in 2010 or so. From what i was told it was a means of storage for a computer, that in theory had unlimited storage compacity. From what i understood it had no mechanical parts. Basicly it was data constintly being transferred in a circle and data gets dumped into it. He said it was an energy matrix.
Has anyone heard anything about this? I would really like to know more about it because it seem very interesting. Thanks.
WOW!!! COOL! someone answer this
btw... wus the guy drunk?

i havent.sounds cool. but ive heard of type of HDD that uses mirrors or something and its sopose to be able to store very large amount of space.
oh its called holographic memory. http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2006/02...llgates/2.html bottom half of the article
seeing that i dont think what that guy said could happen in 4 years...

True, but then again, some guy in the 80's said that in the year 2080, they thought they would have computers reaching 2.0Ghz. So you never know what could happen from now to then.

ya but 4 years seems too soon to have unlimited storage. in only 10 years have we gone from MB to GB/lowTB, and from TB to infinity in just 4 isnt possible. maby in 20 years or 30 but not 4. we arent even close to having w/e is after TB unless we put 2,000 500gb HD's together...

First off, I'm skeptical of anything that would claim to be unlimited. As far as I know nothing is limitless; everything is finite. Second, the only thing that comes to mind from the limited description (since I've never heard of this before) is superconducting magnetic energy storage - basically running electricity in a loop with no resistance. But I could never imagine that would be practical for small scale home use.
