Quick Hard drive ?


Im making a new computer but dont wanna lose all the stuff i have on my old hard drive, can I just take my old HD and put it in a brand new never run before system? and then same ? other way around im giving my bro my old comp, can he put a new HD in a comp that has already been working before and just reload an OS.

Yes he can, all he would need to do is install the OS onto the harddrive

Unfortunately not, unless the new system is absolutely identical to your old one in every single way. The best solution is to back up ALL daa onto CD's/DVD's and then format the drive and reinstall the OS

Agreed, but if that's not an option you can run a repair reinstall, which won't delete your data.

Or if you honestly want to, you can just get a new HD and ghost all of the old HD's info onto the new one and leave the old one in the new computer.
