New to forums and Save Me Please ! lol

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and would like to say HIYA to all and Happy New Year

Ok down to problem...

I recently threw together a second gaming computer to play Everquest. I bought a new AMD Athlon 64 3000+ cpu, Giga-Byte K8U-939 MB, 1GB of DDR400 Ram, and a 500w PS. I used a couple of old 40GB IDE drives, a Geforce 4 Ti4600, and a SB live SC. After putting it all together and installing Windows XP, it ran and performed very well. Recently (2 weeks ago) I began receiving boot errors that stated BOOT DISK FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE. I tried many different things to get the system fixed and boot up. Seemed that only shutting down and restarting would get it to boot up and run. After a few days, instead of getting this error on restarts and cold boots, the system would crash and restart on its own only to give me the same error.

So I removed the 2 IDE drives and purchased a new Maxtor Diamond Max Ultra 100GB SATA/150 HDD. Ok here is where I really begin to bite my nails and pull my hair, and really as a single mommy of twin daughters, this is so unecessary =P. I installed the drive and powered up. I used the Maxtor Maxblast 4 CD to prepare the drive for WIN XP. I then attempt to load XP only to find that I need a 3.5 floppy with SATA controller drivers on it. So I go and make the floppy and use the XP setup utility to install the 3rd party drivers. So it all works now right? NOT ! Windows says its formatting the drive only to get to 100% and then tells me that Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged.

I have returned and replaced the drive only to have the exact sitituation repeat itself. I have rebooted this machine now so many times its ridiculous. I see the Maxtor Drive pop up during the boot up screens and also in the BIOS but for some reason XP just wont partner up with my new drive =( Maybe Im using the wrong SATA drivers or something?? Im at wits end and was hoping someone here might have a bit 'o' help on this. Heres my specs

It's unlikely that you got 2 bad hardrives. Look on page 69 of the manual for how to get the SATA drivers off the driver CD
