Few bios related problems

Well I have a two problems. So I'll just list them off.

-I do not get the boot from cd option while booting up anymore.
-When I try to connect another hd it doesn't work. While booting up after the screen where it should give me the option to boot from cd the screen goes black and doesn't return.

Ok. So, I have been messing in my bios lately (mobo= abit IS7-E) and tweaked a few things and so on. I always set them back to what they were since I was just messing, but then these problems started happening and after many many attempts of trying to fix them, which I couldn't find a cure. I decide to load optimized defaults, which didn't work so then I loaded failsafe defaults, which didn't work either. So bassically I need your help.
It also has my hd's lisited like:
ide 1 master= blank
ide 1 slave= maxtor... (other hd I'm trying to use)
ide 2 master= dvd rom
ide 2 slave= cd rom
ide 3 master= wd raptor (main hd (os))
ide 3 slave= blank

Should my main hd be on ide 3? or is ide 3 refering to sata or something of the like?
If you need anymore info just ask.

Thanks in advance, Bob.

Try clearing the bios, there should be a jumper on the board, shut down, unplug, leave in on clear a few minutes, set back and try to boot, sometimes the jumper has CMOS

Ok, so let me get this straight.

Step by step order: (do I do this with boths the hd's hooked up? Or just the one, or does it not matter?)

1- shutdown

2- set jumper on pins 2&3 (pins to clear)

3- just leave the jumper on pin 2&3 while shutdown for a few mins?

4- switch jumper on pin 1&2 and then boot up

So I guess thats what your saying. Also I've heard that sometimes you have to pop the battery out? Or was that a hole nother way of doing this?

After you shut down you need to uplug the power cord from the tower
