Upgrading ram in my laptop

Hey I got a Dell Inspiron 8600 with 512mb of ram. One problem is I don't know if that's 2 sticks of 256mb or 1 stick of 512mb. Another problem is can this ram http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?EdpNo=235787, which fits my specs exactly, fit into a laptop? Or just a desktop?

Thanks everyone for your replies in advance!

well the ram looks like desktop ram. my laptop ram is 200-pin SODIMM DDR.

about the ram you currently have, there is a port on the bottom of the notbook that says "ram". just take the cover off and see how many sticks there are installed.

before you buy more ram, make sure your motherboard supports that much ram. i.e. my lapptop will suport 1gb max. i have two slots, so it will only support 512mb per slot.

hope this helps.
