what kind of a difference are you looking for?

simply installign another 512MB of RAM won't feel different if all you do is boot up and surf the web/check e-mails. You should have run some benchmarks with 256MB of RAM and then ocompared them to 768MB of RAM. Infact you still can...jsut take out new stuff and then put it back in when you're done testing.

What speed RAM is it? DDR? PC3200? The speed can make a huge difference. I went from 512MB PC3200 to 1GB PC3500 and just going to desktop and booting i didn't notice a large change. But in games and loading programs everything was much faster.

RAM basically just helps you run more programs at once, it won't make games look better or anything....

ah OK, so still DDR...and not incredibly slow. What exactly are you wanting to speed up on your computer? game loading? program loading? overall performance? simply adding RAM can be a good first step, but it's definetly not the end all be all of upgrades for speed.

i can give you some tweaking tips if you want, which wont cost you any money or upgrading or anything. but i need to know what exactly you are having problems with or what u want to run faster.

just speed tests basically. they monitor your computers overall eprformance and it's sort of a "race" to see how fast you can get done. they are used mainly for computer enthusiasts to monitor overall system performance and speed.

Loading programs faster also depends on the speed of you hard drive (i.e.- a 10,000 RPM hard drive loads stuff faster than a 7200 RPM)

...not necessarily. if your HDD is bogged down or has a low RPM rating, then programs will only load as fast as the HDD can access the data. it won't make a difference if you have 256MB of PC2100 or 2GB of PC4400 if you HDD is the bottleneck. thats why im saying...what are you wanting to speed up? Maybe you dont need to focus on the RAM, but some other hardware instead.

EDIT: lol skidude we are thinking alike
