Weird ram problem..was i misled?

Wats up everyone. I just bought this new computer cuz i wanted to play everquest 2. I was told that it had 512 ram and thats wat i needed for EQ2 so i figured i was good to go. I spent 100 dollars buying the game and a pre paid game card. Now i try to install and im told i only have 384 ram and need 512. I was confused so i opened up the casing to my computer and i took out the ram chip thing (lol i have no idea wat its called im a computer dumb mind u) and it said 512 MB on it. I dont get it, both the chip and manual say i have 512 mb of ram and yet wen i go to properties it says i have 384 mb....

check cpuz and see what it says your ram is in your computer.

If it says you should have 512mb then most likly it what Yeti was hinting at. That you might have a onboard video that takes up 128 of your ram. post what video card you have so we can determine if that a possiabity.

edit: acturally if you had only 1 chip in your computer then you definally do have 512ram in your computer becuase they dont make 382 chips. best bet is the graphic card taking it up.

Oh and is it true that all ram comes in 1 size? cuz my friend says they do but i tried to put one of my 256 ones from my other pc into this 1 but it seems to small to fit in the slot...and this 1 to big to fit in the other pc's slot.

No there are several types/sizes (168 pin SDRAM and 184 pin DDR RAM to name a couple). To learn more read RAM 101.

Since I'm assuming that you have integrated graphics which is using your 128 MB of system memory, there are two things you can do - buy a new graphics card or buy another stick of RAM. Either way it would help to know your system specs.

I would think he would get more "Bang for the buck" buy getting a $100 vid card instead of spending aditional money (say $50) on ram.

(he would also get a good frame rate, say with a 9600)
