USB hardrive Very Noob question

I have heard of these but know nothing about them. Im looking to get a 40 or so gig removable hard drive to store music/movies ect.. Is it possible to get it to work like a floppy disk, aka just plug it in and drag files on it or play files off of it (without copying on the main computer) or do you have to actually boot up on it and have it formatted with an os on it like a regular HD?



What would you reccomend?

no u just plug it in, drag all stuff into it and then you can run everything off of it, dont need an OS



and i suggest yuou make your own, buy a external kit and a 40gig hdd, makes it a hell of alot cheaper

where do i find an "external kit" i have no clue what that is.
